The former US president’s newest ultimatum to introduce an extra complete levy on products from China has been called a “typical example” of American hypocrisy, per the China’s leadership.

A representative of the ministry also stated that the nation could introduce its own unrevealed “countermeasures” if the White House occupant carries out his pledge, emphasizing that the country was “unafraid” of a potential commercial battle.

This past Friday, the former president retaliated at Beijing’s move to reinforce its regulations for foreign shipments of critical elements, charging China of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the global community “captive”.

Additionally, he warned to withdraw from a arranged talks with China’s President Xi Jinping, which was set for a meeting in Seoul later this month.

The former president’s remarks on Friday shook global markets, with the S&P 500 dropping over two and a half percent, marking its steepest fall since earlier this year.

The president’s words reignited fears of a commercial dispute between the two economic giants.

Earlier this year, the two sides had reached an agreement to drop triple-digit tariffs on each other’s imports, which had raised the prospect of trade halting between the two nations.

Consequently, United States levies on products from China incurring an additional thirty percent tariff compared with the year’s onset, while items from the United States entering China are subject to a import levy.

China’s latest remarks – published by the Ministry of Commerce in the format of formal replies to journalist’s questions – echoed rhetoric from the height of the recent trade conflict.

Officials denounced United States controls on chips and semi-conductors while defending Beijing’s restrictions on exports on rare earth minerals as “standard procedures” to protect state interests and that of all nations.

Their representative stated that for “an extended period”, the America had “expanded the interpretation” of state security, misused foreign shipment regulations and “implemented” discriminatory practices against Beijing.

“Turning to” import duty warnings is not the proper method to deal with the Chinese government,” their representative stated.

“Beijing’s stance” on a import duty dispute has remained unchanging: we wish to avoid one, but we are not afraid of one.”

Recently, Beijing revealed it was reinforcing export controls on rare earth minerals and other materials critical for advanced tech manufacturing.

This move was regarded as a significant step, as the nation handles about ninety percent of the global rare earth supply, which are used in products such as solar panels and mobile phones.

New remarks from the US and China are being interpreted by some as a method of strengthening positions in preparation for upcoming negotiations.
